Chromium: Chromium is a carbide forming element. Chromium is combined with carbon to form carbides, and the rest is dissolved in the matrix, thereby increasing the electrode potential of the matrix and resisting corrosion. If the content is small, M3C-type carbides may appear, which lowers the hardness and toughness. If the content is large, the number of carbides during the crystallization increases significantly, so that the toughness is significantly reduced. At the same time, the carbon content of the matrix is reduced, resulting in a decrease in the hardness of the matrix, thereby reducing the wear resistance. However, some manufacturers have now adopted special production and processing techniques to solve this problem, so that the maximum chromium content can reach 30%.
