Zirconium carbide is an extremely hard refractory ceramic material with outstanding properties such as high strength, thermal and electrical conducti ity. It is also highly refractory and has a good resisti ity under irradiation. ZrC has been used to produce cutting tools and wear resistant coatings and mechanical parts. It is also a candidate material for ultra high temperature applications beside HfC and TaC due to its high melting point, solid state phase stability, good thermo mechanical and thermo chemical properties.
